That's our kind of funny!

Talin goes to this website to wind down at the end of the day. He'll send me the ones that he thinks are funny and then I end up going to the website and laughing my booty off at all the others.

This one is for Sophie...

Our own personal science fair

The Stratford science fair was last Thursday...Ezra was just NOT feeling it that day though. We had been at Blossom Birth since 1:30 and he was totally not up to hanging out with the Stratford crew until 6:00. So, we headed home with the promise that the fourth grade kids would practice and then give us a private show on Friday.
On Friday we got all "moby wrapped up" and headed to the school. Ezra was GREAT! He listened to each presentation, smiled and cooed at the appropriate times, and met tons of new people. We had so much fun that I just HAD to buy him two new books at the book fair (oh man, remember school book fairs? Best memory ever!)

Alexandra did a project on melting (apparently juice melts faster than water or milk)

Her twin sister, Brittany, did her project on evaporation (again...juice wins out over water or milk....hmmmmm)

Dylan did his on wind resistance. (yes, the monster truck lost to the low-rider Chevy)

Jackie did hers on which type of metal conducts heat best (copper wins...nickle loses!)

I was so impressed by them all!

DIY

Whenever Talin and I see something cute, his first response is always "we could do that" sometimes I giggle at his tenacity and other times he's totally right! =) Lately I've been looking at a lot of "do it yourself" websites and found AWESOME instructions for making baby leg warmers. I started with a pack of socks
(like these..$5.99 at Target) Chopped off the heel, and toe, created a cuff out of the foot and VIOLA...3 baby leg warmers for $2 a piece. I just saved $36 bucks! Granted, they don't have the cute "baby legs" logo or that super professional look. But for $2 a piece??? I'll take it!

He has a pair of solid blue ones too...but he was DONE playing dress up!

My mom was a total domestic goddess when we were growing up! She made our play clothes, our church dresses, our Halloween costumes, even our toys! I loved being measured for the new creations she was working on, and got so excited to see lengths of fabric turning into a new dress or a Cleopatra costume. The sound of crisp fabric shears crunching through bolts of cotton print laid out on the kitchen counter is a memory I will always cherish. My goal is to one day figure out the sewing machine (ohhhh man I don't even want to say how many times I've tried) so that I can bring that homemade goodness to my children too. =)

I'm adding a new sidebar to the blog called "inspiration" I'll add links to websites and blogs that have DIY ideas to try. Let the creating begin!

Oh...Hi!

Look, I can grab my toes!

Lets see if I can lift up my head....

Oh..Hi!

Tummy time is actually starting to get fun.

p.s. yes that's a pot on the bed behind me...sometimes multitasking doesn't work as well as my mom would like it to. =)

The little blue box that changed my life.

My good friend, Shefali, went ring shopping with her fiance last weekend. When I talked to her about it on Monday, I couldn't help but remember those exciting "I'm engaged" feelings!!
It was two weeks before Valentine's Day, Talin was living in Oakland, and I was living in San Mateo. I honestly had no idea what was going to happen with our relationship and it felt like we were drifting apart. I started to prepare myself for the worst. That sunny Saturday, Talin asked if I wanted to go out to Half Moon Bay and have lunch on the beach. He told me that he had a surprise for me (I thought it might be concert tickets...he is so good at getting tickets to the concerts I can't wait to see)
We drove to our favorite Mexican place and got take out. While we packed up our things and got ready to walk down to "our" beach, Talin asked me if I had any idea what his surprise was...I of course said no...and then he pulled out a little blue box with a perfectly tied white ribbon! My heart literally stopped beating and then a tiny voice in my head said, "Ok Jen, calm down, for all you know it's a set of earrings, yeah....or something like that...don't jump to any conclusions and get too excited" Talin was beaming and I stupidly said.."what is that?" He laughed, put it back in his pocket and told me I had to wait until we got to the beach! The whole way there (The beach is 1/2 mile from the parking lot!) my mind was racing...could it be..no...well maybe...ahhhhhh!
Once we got to the beach, we laid out all the blankets, and he handed me the box with that crooked little grin of his. I gently opened the paper and found a velvet ring box inside! Suddenly Talin was up on one knee. I giggled with excitement as he told me how much he loved me and how he treasured the past 8 years. He used my full name (ooooohhhhh just like the movies) and officially asked me to be his wife! To be honest, I think I was in a state of shock...poor Talin just looked at me, waiting for an answer....I of course said yes, we kissed, he put the absolutely perfect ring (round cut solitaire, my dream ring!!) on my finger and I spent the rest of the day floating.
We went back to that beach a few months later and had our engagement pictures taken there. I'm glad that we'll always have pictures of the place where our journey together began. =) I love you Talin!

Duh!

The day that Ezra was born, my sweet doula lovingly stood next to my bed and talked to me while the midwife was repairing my tired body. She told me all about a magical place where Moms and Dads get together and talk for hours about anything at all. In my endorphin induced stupor, I listened and smiled but didn't really pay attention.
A few weeks later, I called her in tears, complaining about how much I missed my family and how frightened I was for Talin to go back to work. She gently reminded me of the magical land, and I , again, brushed if off....DUH! Ezra and I have literally spent the past two days LIVING at the Blossom Birth Center. We've gone to four classes, have met 27 mothers (and 27 babies), have listened, talked, cried (mostly Ezra...but there was a little from me too) and laughed about life as a new mother!
Thank you Rachel Kelly! Having you at Ezra's birth was the BEST thing Talin and I ever did!! Why oh why didn't I listen to you sooner? Lesson learned: When a doula gives you advice...TAKE IT!

All through the night....

When Talin got home last night he offered to be on "baby duty" for the weekend. I think he could see how burned out and tired I was. We put Ezra to bed at his usual time (8:00 PM) and low and behold....he decided to sleep until 6:00 AM!!!! What the what??? Talin totally got to skip the 3 Am feed!!! Man does this little boy love his daddy or what? =)

After playing like crazy all morning though...they both crashed. Oh how I love these two!

Ode to a three month old...by Mommy

Oh my tiny boy you are growing,
And though I don't yet understand,
Why you look at me so all knowing,
I feel privileged to hold your pudgy hand,
Sleeping through the night and eating 6 ounces at a time isn't for you,
Why sleep when there is so much to see and discuss,
I promise to always try and provide you with a view,
If you promise to keep smiling and blowing spitty bubbles at us.
(It's been a long time since English 101 but I think I got the rhyme scheme right.)

Ezra's journal came today! Our good friend Katie suggested that instead of trying to keep up a baby book (I've been seriously slacking) or a daily journal, I should keep a simple notebook and write in it at every "month" anniversary. That way if the baby books never get completed, or the journal gets forgotten, at least he will be able to go back and read a little bit about himself every month and what our family was doing. Costco makes cute personalized notebooks for a CRAZY good price. I can't wait to fill it up. =)

We're so glad when Daddy comes home...glad as we can be!

Hooray for Saturday mornings with Daddy!
We all went to breakfast (look at us being adventurous...finally!) and then used our friends and family discount to stock up on baby goods at the Gap and Old Navy (thank you Greg!)

After, we went grocery shopping and then had some family play time (Ezra ALWAYS wants to play in just his diaper! No clothes for this little boy!) I was laughing about how much Talin and Ezra look alike. I had to take a few photos of my twin-ners.

But playing all day can be soooooooo tiring! =)

On a bit of a different subject, Ezra has discovered his hands! He's grabbing onto toys and twirling his fingers in the air for his amusement. So funny! Last night Tal and I watched him put himself to sleep by staring at his intertwined fingers and moving them around and around and around...

He's growing up so fast it's CRAZY!!! Just a few weeks ago he didn't even know he HAD hands!! What an awesome discovery that must have been. =)

I'm forming a small obsession...

I can't help it though!

By the time our second baby shows up...

I will have at least one BILLION pictures of our Ezra man...

It's time to start investing in photo books...or maybe I can pay Kristen to scrapbook them for me...eh...Kristen?

Want to play?

It starts off with a little harmless fist/finger chewing...

Then when Mommy moves in to wipe off the drooley drool.....

HE CHOMPS DOWN!!!!

His gum strength actually blows my mind..it's like a tiny, gooey, iron vice!

Spring breezes beckon

Today we needed a change of pace.

We decided the beach might be a nice break...

We wrote our names in the sand...

watched the waves...

took TONS of pictures...

snuggled down for a nap....

woke up giggling...either at the silly seagulls or the sound of the waves...still not sure...

packed up and came home. Hooray for sunny, spring days on the beach! Wish you could have been there Daddy!
