Four square at a funeral home...

Ok...so technically the funeral home was next door...but still. Talin's school friends had a "goodbye summer" party last weekend on their roof. Talin and some of the boys started a hard core four square game. It was funny to watch them trying to out bounce each other! =) I'm pretty sure my Talin man won. =) After the party, we went to dinner with my fun friend Allyson and her cute boyfriend Peter. What a fun weekend. We're so lucky to have good friends!

Diwali!

Happy Diwali! Today we celebrated the Indian festival of lights. So fun! My friend Vali brought in the most beautiful bindis I'd ever seen. She let me choose the prettiest one and then placed it lovingly on my forehead. Thanks Vali!

Planting a garden

The fourth and fifth graders at my school got together and planted a little fall garden next to our classrooms. It was so fun to watch their faces as they dug in the black soil and gently laid their little lettuce and parsely plants in the shallow holes. They were SUPER excited about planting the seeds of radishes and spinach (proably because they didn't have to handle them as gently). I had taken off my shoes and was walking around supervising the watering when suddenly i had one of those moments where everything seems perfect. The warm dirt in between my toes, the cool ocean breeze, the smell of a freshly planted garden, and the silly giggles of little kids. It made me so thankful to be alive and enjoying the tinniest (and often overlooked) everyday blessings.
p.s. I tried to post pics of the garden but I couldn't get the school camera to cooperate. Sorry. =(

Nesting

I can't say it's official yet, but the nesting instinct has started to make an appearance. After Simplicity recalled our bassinet I had a little break down because I suddenly felt so unprepared. (apparently there was a dangerous gap between the bedding and the walls of the bassinet...two babies suffocated...SO SCARY) On the night we found out about the recall, poor Talin watched me surf from website to website freaking out because I couldn't find anything I thought would be good enough for our son. (yeah...see, I know that SOUNDS nuts...but it felt normal when I was thinking it.) Luckily, Talin asked one of the ladies at his work what she had used with her kids and she suggested the arms reach co-sleeper bassinet. After a few days of research we found the most AWESOME deal on craigslist and we once again have a bassinet! YAY! The best part is that after he's done using the bassinet it converts to a play yard (YAYAYAYAY!) So...as we were setting things up today, I started to think about how many people in my life have had experience with preparing their homes for new babies...so here is my plea for help! =) Hook me up with the awesome things that we just HAVE to get or things we HAVE to do. What worked for you, and what didn't. Tell me, tell me, tell me ALLL! =)

Doctors can't do math...

I'm 32 weeks today! YAY! During my math lesson, the kids and I were practicing multiplication facts. When we got to 8 * 4 = 32, I excitedly told them that the baby in my stomach is 32 weeks old today which means I'm 8 month's pregnant because there are 4 weeks in a month. One of my sweet girls said " so, Wadsy (their nickname for the baby) will be born next month?" And I reminded her that I'm not due until December 5th. The silence of little brain's computing filled the room. Another one of my little girls declared "but that's another 8 weeks..I thought that babies only took 9 months to grow"......hmmm how do you explain to a room full of fourth graders that although we all declare pregnancy a 9 month task...if we look at it mathematically...it's actually 10! I tried really hard not to laugh about our crazy adult world.

I also couldn't help thinking today about how my sister Lisa pointed out when SHE was 32 weeks along that we Berg girls look like giant jelly beans when we're pregnant...thanks to the Berg Butt!! One huge lump in the front, and one in the back...ah well...at least we have a matching set.

Date Night

Tal and I decided it was time for a good old fasion date! =)
We went to see "The Dutchess" (which was just ok...beautiful but sad) and then walked down to Young's ice cream and candy shop (it's Redwood City's answer to New York's Serendipity) After picking out a pound of black licorice (only for the Jenny...Talin no likey) we moved over to the ice cream counter. Talin got a yummy green mint chocolate chip...I got the worlds most delicious orange pumpkin concotion. As we're walking down the street, licking our frozen treats and chatting we keep hearing people giggle...I looked at Talin, he looked at me...can you guess why people were laughing? =)

The new..new bed!

Remember how we got a new bed like two weeks ago...hahaha, just kidding! We decided to upgrade to the KING! It is so nice!!!!! The queen was cooshy but the pillow top made us role into each other in the middle of the bed. One tiny problem, after we bought the bed, we went shopping for new sheets...for some reason Target has decided to only carry California King siz sheet sets. So..what does everyone with a REGULAR king do for sheets? Anyone? We bought the set anyway cause we like the color, it fits ok but not as tight as I like. The new blanket fits great though..Talin finally agreed to sleep under the same blanket-he's usually all wrapped up in his favorite blue quilt. =)

Decision 08

After much deliberation and combing over of the issues, Owen decided that there is only one choice for president this fall (plus, he found out that Palin kills animals and advocates the shooting of wolves from helicopters...he's not cool with that).
