Hey Y'all!

Ezra and I just got home from a week in Georgia and we have SOOOO many pictures of our amazing adventures to share with you.
Now I just need to gather them up from various sources
(Mom and Lisa....I'm talkin' to you! Ha)

This little man really is a joy to travel with. =)

Get ready for some southern fun, blog town!

Today

Trying to "catch up" on blog posts makes me feel like I'm falling further and further behind.
Our adventures sit on my camera and patiently wait their turn to be documented.....while they pile on top of one another!
So, TODAY I'm actually writing about what we did TODAY!
HA!
Ezra's been dealing with a weird little virus,
but he FINALLY woke up this morning feeling better and ready to play.
I could tell yesterday that we was on the mend, so I planned ahead and bought tickets to a museum we've NEVER been to:

We packed a lunch and our cameras
(Ezra got a "kid tough" camera in his Easter basket this year)
and headed out the door.

I couldn't believe how amazing the view was from the museum's front steps...
(Ezra's pic...can you see the bay?)
...and the building itself blew my mind!
I kind of felt like we were on vacation in a European country.
Especially with Ezra's touristy little sunglasses and leg pop pose.
HA!
In the courtyard we found Rodin's Thinker.
We have a board book about San Francisco that has this bronze cast in it so Ezra was pretty impressed to see it in person.
He even tried his best to snap a picture.
=)
To be fair...it's a pretty huge statue for such a tiny camera.
We made our way down the columned hall to enter the museum...
...I couldn't stop talking about how beautiful it was so my photographer snapped another picture for me to remember it by.
We excitedly walked in, and almost instantly I felt that glorious, hushed, awe that art museums full of people absorbing beauty have...

...Ezra, on the other hand, had a fairly hushed...
FREAK OUT!
I might as well have taken him into a haunted house!!
He took one look at all those HUGE oil portraits and was scurrying to get out!!

If he hadn't been so truly frightened it might have been a little comical...
...the way he looked up at a gigantic painting of a scowling Duke and gasped...
...then darted to another wall...
...looked up a looming painting of a sober Lady and gasped.....
...he was scrambling around the room like a trapped hummingbird!
It was like something out of a cartoon episode.

Who knew that could happen??
I'm sure that no one around us even noticed what was going on.
He was so quiet....but so determined to get out!

I scooped him up and made our way deeper into one of the halls that didn't have so many oppressive oils.
I talked to him the whole time about how everything he saw was made with paint, stone, or clay....nothing was real.
He mumbled something about monsters as we sped past a wall size oil painting of a lady preparing for her wedding day.
=(
I thought for sure we were going to have to leave....
but while we were zooming through one of the rooms, Ezra quietly said,
"Hey!"
and pointed to a picture on the wall....
...Great Grandma Gladys has a print of this beautiful girl in her living room.

Something clicked at that point and he began to feel a little more comfortable.
Not really comfortable enough to leave my arms for long...
...but not so spooked!
I asked if he still wanted to leave and he said "no" while curiously looking at a small sculpture of a baboon.

We found a room full of Monet, Manet, Renoir, and even a tiny Van Gogh .
He liked saying all the strange names and the watercolors seemed more approachable.
Moving on to the hall of statues and sculptures, we found this beautiful wooden sarcophagus.
Ezra was fascinated by it....but didn't want to get too close.
HA!
We spent about an hour, exploring and slowly getting used to the museum's atmosphere.
We even made it back up to the original room full of early American portraiture that initially had him climbing the walls.

He found a picture of a dog and his master that he really liked....
...but didn't want to take a picture of.

He announced he was ready to leave, and I set him free in the sunshine to race around the museum's gigantic fountain.
Then we tossed pennies and enjoyed our picnic lunch.
All in all it was worth the trip, and a welcome break from our daily routine.

Public Speaking

Ezra was given his first speaking assignment in church last month.
To help him practice his talk and get over the jitters we assembled an "audience" in the front room to listen.
Complete with a "microphone"!
HA!
Once he got over the giggles, hee hee hee, he did a great job!
That following Sunday, he proudly bellied up to the pulpit and delivered a beautiful little talk about prophets.
We're so proud of this big kid!

Adventures with Pop Pop

One of my favorite things about my parent's vacation in the bay area, was how much time I got to spend with my Dad!
We took him out to Hyde Street Pier...
...to visit the boats...
...play make-believe....
...and generally enjoy each other's company.
Of course, the boats just HAPPEN to be right at the end of the cable car line.
Which makes for some pretty awesome photo ops...
...and hiking all those hills makes for one tired boy.
HA!
On Pop Pop's last day in town
(MeeMee flew out early that morning)
we took him to a special breakfast...at DENNY'S!
HA HA HA!
I haven't eaten at Denny's since I was in high school...
...at like one in the mooring...
...ha!...
...but they had the hash browns Dad was craving. =)
And, on the plus side, it was super cheap!
We went back down to the pier to see the Naval Submarine docked there...
...I was surprised to find it tucked away in a little corner...
...just waiting for people to come aboard and see what life on a sub is like.
Ezra desperately needed to use the bathroom, which led us to another random discovery...
...and old school arcade...
...and when I say old school...
...I'm talking like 19th century old school!
HA HA HA!
OK...maybe it wasn't that old.
But, the oldest machine in there was from 1911!!
It was full of the weirdest things.....
...but Ezra seemed to like the squeaky, metal games and music machines...
...he did not, however, enjoy the classic photo booth from 1980 that we climbed into.
He was ok....at first...then he abandoned ship by the last picture.
After leaving the arcade, we drove around to see the sights while the boy napped.
The painted ladies....
...Haight/Ashbury...
...we ended up at Land's End watching HUGE tanker ships come in and listening to fog signals.
At this point our little friend woke up and was ready for more!
Pop Pop wanted to explore topside while Ezra and I headed down, down, down to check out the trail.
The views were incredible!
So, of course, I had to have Ezra pose for a million pictures....
....I totally missed his little dance and squinty face...
...until it was too late.
HA!
Realizing I'd left my purse with Pop Pop, and with it a dry pair of clothes, Ezra got to discover the joy of running unencumbered in SUPER short shorts!
Oh well....
After a quick clothes change we drove to Golden Gate park where Pop Pop became king of the jungle gym!
Look at how awesome this man is!!
HA!
I love you Daddy!
He surveyed his kingdom then jumped off like a 25 year old mountain climber!
As the sun went down, we drove across the bridge, picked up dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant in Oakland and took Pop Pop to the airport.

We had SOOOOOOOO much fun Mom and Dad!
Thanks for adventuring with us!
We love you!
Come back soon!!

Beach sunset

Late afternoon on Saturday we loaded the car with gear and set out to watch the sunset over the ocean.
Ezra was so excited to try out the huge airplane kite he got from Aunt Lisa for Christmas!!
We let out ALLLLL the string and his "blue angel" went soaring.
He liked holding it at first...then realized Pop Pop was lounging unprotected on the beach blanket...which of course meant that he needed to be wrastled!
HA!
He looked up at the plane every now and then and squealed but the prospect of a good game of roughhouse beat out holding the kite string.
Daddy took over as pilot, and we watched it flutter above us for at least an hour. Meanwhile, the sun started to dip into the waves...
...taking with it what little warmth there was on the sand....BRRRR! We bundled up and pledged to stay...
...until the last ray could be seen.
Although it was freezing by the end...it was so wonderful to sit on that beach with my family around me listening to the waves and watching the water and sky shift color.
I couldn't be more grateful for that quiet time we spent just being together...not really talking or laughing...just enjoying.
Of course, those kind of moments only last so long with this little rascal around!
He ventured out from underneath the blankets to hop on Pop Pop some more. =)
What a patient Daddy I have.
HA!
When the shadows had chased away all of the light, we gathered up supplies and trundled back to San Mateo for dinner at our favorite chinese place.
Needless to say Ezra slept like a log that night!
