But first...

My sweet sister-in-law asked me to share this video about our adorable niece, Ivy, in the hope that other NICU mothers will see it and gather strength from her experience.
We love you Allie girl!
Come home soon Ivy!! =)

Downpour

I feel like I always abandon our blog at this time of year.

I don't know if it's the time change, the irregular weather, or just end-of -winter doldrums....
...but it seems to be a continuing trend.
That being said, get ready for a downpour of posts.
HA!
My parent's came out for a visit last week
(SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!)
I'm slowly gathering pictures from the MANY sources
(my camera, Talin's i-phone, my mom's BEAUTIFUL camera, my dad's i-phone....etc.)
I'm not kidding, at one point it felt like all four of our "lenses" were snapping the same pictures!
It's fun to see the same event from many angles though.
I can't wait to share!

Shine

How is it possible that my tiny baby has grown into a big tall Sunbeam!?
Today he was the spotlight in Primary.
I've been building this experience up for a few days, so when the 1st councilor announced that there was a spotlight today he shouted out, "It's MEEEEEEE!"
He was so excited!
Ha!
He stood sweetly while Mommy introduced him and then told a story about a time he had to show courage (this year we're highlighting the primary colors and what they stand for)...
....then he got to wear the spotlight crown for the day and got his very own pair of green "choose the right" beads.
It's so funny to see him sitting with his class....oh what a big kid he's become! =)

Choose Joy

Today we headed out to Costco for a new set of tires.
I steadily got grumpier and grumpier....
...first over the cost of my 4 new rubber wheels
(GAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!)
.....and then how long it took to have them attached to my car!

As the hours ticked away...
...yes, that's right...
...HOURS!
I started to notice something.
Ezra was having the time of his life!!
In the course of three hours we camped out on the garden furniture reading all of the new books we could find in the literature section...
(he has discovered a love of Bernestein Bears and Where's Waldo)
...walked countless circles around the perimeter of the store indulging in every sample that was offered to us...
(and sometimes more then once)
...sat on plastic lunch tables and re-told every American folk tale I could think of...
(consequently he spent the rest of the adventure saying, "I'm not Ezra, I'm Johnny Appleseed)
..."trudged the trails" behind the building...
(code for walked along the mulched land in-between the parking lots)
...and "discovered" an "old buffer" that was left behind from an ancient train.
By the time my keys were FINALLY handed over Ezra declared,
"this is my favorite place EVER!"

It really made me think.
Yes, my little boy doesn't have money cares or a boring, endless, sense of the passing hours weighing him down, but on the other hand, he could have chosen to walk around whining that he didn't want to be in the store, that he wanted to be somewhere else, or worse yet, that he wanted to BUY something.
HA!
Instead he chose to find joy in the simpleness around him

For a while now I've followed a blog about a crafty mom and her beautiful daughter.
Recently, her life has been caving in around her. She had a miscarriage, then weeks later lost her Dad, then on her second attempt to get pregnant wound up with a molar pregnancy which quickly became a ravenous cancer spreading throughout her body.
Through it all, her posts have remained positive, uplifting, and hopeful.
Watching it all unfold, I am continually amazed that she still smiles with a tear-streaked face and a beautiful bald head and openly invites everyone around her to choose joy.
Even if that joy is as simple as a desert sunset on the way home from the chemo center.

It's hard!
It's so hard!
But, lately I've been finding that she's right.
When I choose joy....everything else seems easier to deal with.
Even simple, but seemingly endless, horrible, tasks with a three year old in tow. =)

Pink Cupcakes and a Polka Dot Balloon

My February 14th began with this...
...yes, that's right,it's a love message from my best friend. =)
Complete with pictures I haven't seen in over 7 years!
Awwwww!
And, for good measure, a ratty old kitty I gave him when we were dating, complete with a picture we had taken at a Target photo studio on our "we've been dating for a whole year" anniversary!
Oh the cheese!!
I love it!!
After our annual heart biscuit breakfast (and a million snuggly kisses goodbye. HA!)
Ezra and I headed over to his friend Bowen's house for a Valentine party.
He, of course, wasted no time in finding the cupcake table, and happily watched his friends frost and decorate while he noshed away on his pristine treat.
Look at how delicious little Maddy's creation is!
How is it possible that MY son doesn't like frosting and sprinkles?
(although....his Dad is pretty much the only other person I know who would reject frosting and decorations for a plain cookie or cake...hmmmmm....)
After hours of playing
(and Mommy talking herself hoarse...HOORAY for a room full of amazing women that I NEVER get to sit and chat with anymore)
Ezra collected his goody bag and we headed out to complete our secret plans.
(He's just a little excited about all the sugar snacks in this box, can you tell?)
With a big bouquet of balloons and a new framed picture for Daddy's desk, we snuck into the Adobe reception area and had them page Talin...
...then we ran to a corner and hid....
...and popped out and yelling "HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY" when he came near.
He seemed to like our surprise attack...
...although he did try to send the balloons home.
HA!
The night was rounded out with another annual food tradition...
...heart shaped pizza!
The boys were so excited to play with their Valentine's Day Legos they jumped right into creating as soon as their bellies were full.
What a wonderful day full of love!

To Ezra's future wife, part 2...

...at one point Ezra used to beg and beg and beg me to let him vacuum.
One day he literally said, "I LOVE to vacuum"...
...don't let him tell you otherwise.
HA!
(p.s. Yes...his OTHER eye is starting to swell now....soon his little body will be clean of any lingering penicillin, but until then he's going to look like a tiny boxer. So sad!)
