Unlike last
year, we decided to get some sun this Memorial Day. So, we jumped in the car and drove down to Santa Cruz

We stopped at this miniature restaurant,Cafe Campesino, and ordered lunch. We'd heard that they had the best Mexican around, and we were excited to try it.

Ezra and Daddy waited patiently at the little tables on the sidewalk while our personal troubadour serenaded our summery day ( I was too shy to take his picture.)

Seth and Heidi Kershaw met up with us and kept everyone in stitches while we waited for our lunch.

TA-DA! Can you believe something this beautiful can come out of a kitchen that tiny? It's a handmade corn gordita stuffed with spicy guacamole, beans and cheese. YUM!! Ohhhh, just looking at this picture makes me wish I was eating it again......

Talin got a meat version of the gordita and Ezra had this yummy kids quesadilla! I'm so glad we stopped. =)

After filling our stomach's with delicious creations we headed for the beach...

..........along with everybody else! Poor Talin let Ezra and I out of the car while he drove around for another HOUR trying to find parking!!

The sand was too hot for tiny toes, but Ezra was content to stay on our massive spread of blankets and dig in the sand around the edges. ( He's wearing his
zebra bucket lid as a hat here!)

Heidi and I talked up a storm....

While Seth delved into his book.

It was hot...and we missed Daddy...but then he came! Everything was happier! =)

Ezra plomped himself down as close to Talin as he possibly could (he had been saying "Dada?" for the past hour).

Then he asked if anyone was up for a game of frisbee.

But, it was much too hot to stray out from under the shelter of the umbrella. He decided that lounging in laps was the better choice.

Once the sun started to cool down the boys passed the volleyball around for a bit....

and I messed around with my cell phone, discovering this panarama option in the camera program...

pretty cool eh? Although they are a bit tiny.

After a peaceful drive home through the wooded hills of highway 84, we came back into the bay area to see the fog creeping over the mountains and sinking down into the valley. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place!
Talin made a quick stop to grab some pupusas( yes, I know...we're obsessed) for our family dinner. It was a perfect ending to a perfect, perfect day. If this was the start to the summer of 2010, I can't wait to see what else it has in store for us. Happy Memorial Day everyone!

jen, your mom is my visiting teacher back in the old River 4th ward. She told me to check your blog out. So funny we are obsessed with pupusas, too. Miguel, my husband, is from El Salvador. Finally there is a wonderful pupusaria in Utah. When you are in town I will give you the address so you can take your mom for an ethnic experience! Keep trying the "cabbage stuff" it really is wonderful with the other flavors in the pupusas.
Thanks LuAnn! I can't wait to try it!
P.S. Ezra LOVES the "cabbage stuff"!! He eats it by the handful. That's got to be a good sign, right? =)
I don't know if I can read your blog anymore....it's too painful. Here? Oh, here it's a balmy 50something degrees, but today it's estimated to get up to nearly 70. I just might have to turn on a FAN! A fan!? Yes, a fan. School's out tomorrow and I know there will be people trying to force summer by sitting at the pool in the middle of the Tooele desert, trying to pretend like we're all instead at a beach in CA like SOME people are. LOLOLOL!
Thank you so much for posting all the cool places you and your family go to. When I see them on your blog, I find them online, and bookmark them for things we can do. I love it. You're such a great mom, and do great things with Ezra. Seriously - we need to get together soon...
