Cereal and pretzels...

A few weeks ago, the Young Women in our ward decided to enter the 2010 Cereal and Pretzel competition that one of our favorite websites is sponsoring this year.
There are categories for mosaics and sculptures, we decided to enter both!
We met in the church kitchen and tried to firgure out what to make from the bags and bags of sugary cereals and salty thick pretzles.

For the mosaic, one of our AMAZINGLY talented Laurels, Maegan, drew the Young Women's flame. We sorted Fruit Loops into colors, crushed them, and then glued them into place. We used Cheerios for the base of the flame.
Doesn't this look incredible?
For the scultpure, we chose to create King Benjamin's Tower. The tower itself was pretty tricky.Everyone pitched in to create the tents around the tower.
VIOLA! Our cereal version of the classic Book of Mormon story. The "ground" is made of crushed Frosted Flakes with green Fruit Loop "bushes."
Here's a close up on the tents. The girls tried to make each pretzel "tent" look unique. Some have cereal roofs, others have pretzels...one even has a marshmallow flag. We made smaller "tents" out of stick pretzels with frosted flake "canvas sides". But, we made sure that all of the "doors" faced the tower. =)
An aerial shot (can you see marshmallow King Benjamin on top of the tower?).
A close up of the tower....pretty cool what Captain Crunch and pretzles can do! =) My favorite are the HUGE eyes on King Benjamin.
Of course...what kind of cereal gathering would be complete without at least TWO pans of gooey, gooey rice krispie treats......mmmmmm...AND a plate of See's brand new white chocolate truffles (our secretary works for See's Candy....jealous?)What a fun night! If you want to vote for our creations (OH PLEASE!!) you can go here. Voting starts on June 1st. Have I mentioned how much I love my calling?
