With Talin's job change came a change in our insurance (YAY!!!! Can I scream that any louder!? YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!) We're back with Kaiser, which although it means slightly longer trips out to Redwood City to see a doctor, it's still one of the greatest things to happen to our family in a long time!
Today I needed to have some routine blood work done, so while getting ready, I explained to Ezra where we were going. He listened half heartedly from the train table...occasionally muttering an "uh huh".
When I stopped talking he looked up and said "then go park?" HA!
Oh dear...have our days become too predictible. Every errand we run ends with a park visit. Not necessarily a bad thing...but a bit boring. So I told him that today we were going to do something different. "Lets mix it up shall we?" To which he replied. "OK!"
After leaving the lab (where Ezra sat on my lap and watched everything with his two year old inquisitiveness...."What's that Mommy?"..."oh that's just a vial of Mommy's blood"....uhhh...is this an ok conversation to be having?)
We decided to go the the San Mateo County History Museum, which is housed in one of the COOLEST buildings I've ever been too.

Ezra obliged me by sitting for one photo (pretty good for a toddler boy eh?)
Then was up exploring, and of course shouting..."WHAT'S THAT MOMMY!?"

The fountains became a quick favorite, but the promise of stage coaches and old cars inside the "oozeenum" held more interest, so we were off.

There was an old caboose to climb on....

... a restored classic car to stare at and whisper "wow.....that's so neat."
Not a joke.
He literally said that! I laughed so hard (quietly).

... an antique gas pump to inspect...

...and of course, the stage coaches!
They used to have one you could climb inside and play around with....huh...I have a feeling it got broken. Which explains all of the fancy new ropes and signs saying, "PLEASE do not ride on coaches!"
Oh well.

We visited the old court room upstairs. It was so grand and ornate!
Ezra pretended to be a member of the jury...he's just taking a little nap. HA!
Just kidding.
We did talk about juries, judges, and lawyers.....

...which led to these awesome swinging doors the witnesses marched through.
Ezra really liked the idea of marching through swinging doors...he had to try it at least 10 times.
Then I was invited to join in the fun. But, apparently, I needed to be a cat witness.
"Mommy be cat!"......."Oh hi Cat, what are you doing?"
ha ha ha ha ok...a little odd, but at least we don't have to worry about his imagination skills! =)

The ceilings in the court rooms were amazing! I can't even imagine how long it took to put these pieces together, and THEN hang them properly. WOW!

We ventured downstairs to the Ohlone room and joined a 4th grade field trip for an explanation of life as a Native American.
Ezra wasn't much interested in what the docent had to say so much as what the big kids were doing....
especially the naughty little knot of boys at the back.
Oh dear!
After the brief lecture we looked around at the displays....
at which point my new camera and I had a lengthy discussion about wether or not a flash was necessary. I did NOT want that harsh flashy glare....

....but camera was determined that I had NO clue what I was doing and kept sending that blinding light my way!
BLARGH!

....ahh, there nice and natural....wait, why is everything all blurry now?
Sigh....at least Ezra had a good time with the hands on exhibits.

After a brief stop in the gift shop (I think I need a gift shop intervention, I'm seriously NOT able to leave a place of interest without perusing the wares they're offering in the gift shop! It's like an OCD thing....."trip not over until gift shop inspection has been completed"......oh well)...

....we headed back outside to see the fountains.

Ezra absolutely REFUSED to give me a smile.
It's like the perfect power struggle.
"Say cheese Baby!".....glare....."Ezra look at Momma"........sigh, stare off into the distance.....

...finally I found the magic trick (at least for today) when I accidentally sneezed, which for some reason gave him the giggles.

We decided it was too warm for coats....and then Ezra did some convincing that it was too warm for socks and shoes too...

...so warm in-fact that he just HAD to dip his toes in the cool fountain pool.

And low and behold. HE SMILED at the camera!
Ha ha ha, not just smiled for me, giggled, laughed, splashed and kicked....wooooo

When things got too cold for his toes, he'd stretch out in the sun ( for like 3 seconds) to dry off..

...then jump back up and dip them in again.

Should have just saved my museum fee and played in the fountains in the courtyard instead. =)
I'm glad we shook things up today, it made our ordinary Tuesday feel special. I think we'll have to do this more often!

Hooray for mixing it up! And as for gift shops - my kids didn't even know what they were until stinking Living Planet Aquarium decided to put the exit in the back of theirs. Grrr . . .
