Stocking up

Frozen brown rice is one of our weekly staples from Trader Joe's. Just three minutes in the microwave and we get light, fluffy rice to pair with anything. Talin loves it so much he'll sometimes just eat it as a snack!
This past week I was looking for ways to cut down our grocery bill. After some internet research I decided today was the day to try freezing our own rice.
Our poor rice cooker hasn't seen the light of day for a few years now...
but it still did a great job! It made seven fluffy cups of rice which I spread out on a cookie sheet to cool....
then filled up six freezer bags with individual portions. Squeezing all of the air out was a bit tricky, but there's something about these little blocks of rice that make me smile.
Pop one of those bags in the microwave, throw in some peas, black beans, parmesan cheese and Ezra's lunch is ready to go. Doesn't get any better then that! Here's to saving $6 a week! It doesn't sound like much...but spending $24 on rice a month was getting a little ridiculous. =)
